Founded in 1995, PENCIL is the leader in creating innovative and impactful models of ongoing collaboration between business and public schools.
PENCIL believes that the business community has both a responsibility and a unique contribution to ensure that all students reach their full potential. Working at the intersection of school needs and business expertise, we bring together the best ideas, talent, and resources across sectors to improve public student and school performance and enhance workforce pathways.
PENCIL forges and guides Partnerships between business volunteers and Principals that develop stronger school communities and increase students’ college and career readiness.
Through PENCIL Fellows, accepted high school juniors and seniors gain hands-on skills training and real-world experience during paid summer internships at local businesses.
Our programs reach thousands of students annually—90% of participating principals say their PENCIL Partnership helped improve school culture and/or student performance last year.
In 2013, PENCIL was named one of the 50 Best Nonprofits to Work For in the nation by The Nonprofit Times and 2012 Nonprofit of the Year by the New York Enterprise Report.
