Founded in 1995, PENCIL is the leader in creating innovative and impactful models of ongoing collaboration between business and public schools.
Working at the intersection of school needs and business expertise, we bring together the best ideas, talent, and resources across sectors to improve school performance and help students reach their potential.
In New York City, our model forges and guides partnerships between business volunteers and school leaders that develop stronger school leaders, increase college and career readiness, and engage families in their children’s learning.
Through PENCIL Fellows, accepted high school students gain hands-on skills training and real-world experience through paid summer internships at local businesses.
Our programs reach thousands of students annually—90% of participating principals say their PENCIL Partnership helped improve school culture and/or student performance last year.
In 2013, PENCIL was named one of the 50 Best Nonprofits to Work For in the nation by The Nonprofit Times and 2012 Nonprofit of the Year by the New York Enterprise Report.
